We expect an applicant to have earned a bachelor’s or a master’s degree by the time he/she registers in MechE. Most incoming students will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering or some related branch of engineering. The department’s admission criteria are not specific, however, and capable students with backgrounds in different branches of engineering or in science may gain entry.

MIT 기계공학 대학원에서의 학업을 성공적으로 이수하려면 대부분의 핵심 메카니즘 분야(고체역학, 역학, 유체역학, 열역학, 열역학, 열전달, 재료, 제어, 설계 및 제조)에 최소한 학부생 수준의 학업적인 기반을 갖춰야 하며, 기본적인 전기 회로와 전자기장 이론에 익숙해야 합니다. 기반이 부족하다고 판단되는 학생들은 졸업하기 전까지 특정 분야에 대한 보충 과목을 이수하도록 요청받을 수 있습니다. 보충 과목의 난이도는 학부생 수준(이 경우 비교적 초급이라 일반적으로 대학원 학점에 적용할 수 없음) 또는 대학원생 수준(이 경우 대학원 학점으로 포함됨)이 될 수 있습니다.

To qualify for a graduate degree, applicants are expected to have at least an undergraduate-level exposure to most of the core MechE disciplines (solid mechanics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials, control, design and manufacturing), and to be familiar with basic electric circuits and electromagnetic field theory. Those who are deemed deficient may be asked to make up courses in certain areas before they graduate. The make-up courses may be at the undergraduate-level (in which case they are relatively elementary and usually cannot be applied toward graduate credit), or at the graduate-level (in which case they carry graduate credit).

4-3. 기타 참고사항

일반적인 미국대학원들은 학부만 졸업해도 박사과정에 다이렉트로 지원할 수 있지만, MIT 기계공학 대학원은 반드시 석사부터 학업을 시작해야 합니다. 단, 다른 대학에서 이미 석사학위를 취득한 경우라면 박사과정에 다이렉트로 지원할 수 있습니다. 석사학위가 없는 학생들은 박사과정으로 진학하기 전에 석사학위를 받게 될 것입니다.

Students without a Master’s degree will earn that degree before proceeding on to the PhD. If you already hold a Master’s degree from another school, you can apply directly to the PhD. We do not admit directly to the PhD from the Bachelor’s Degree, you must apply for the Master of Science program first.
