1-1. 학군 특징
할튼교육청은 할튼카톨릭교육청과 함께 토론토와 나이아가라 사이의 도시인 벌링턴, 할튼힐즈, 밀튼, 옥빌에 있는 공립학교들을 주관하는 교육청입니다. 매년 온타리오 주 공립학교 순위에서 상위권을 차지하는 고등학교들이 몰려있는 지역으로 유명합니다.

1-3. 홈스테이 배정
할튼교육청은 홈스테이 알선이나 가디언 서비스를 제공하지 않습니다. 외주업체가 있긴 한데 한국어 상담이 가능한 업체는 아닙니다. 자세한 사항은 Canadian Homestay Network를 참고하시길 바랍니다.
1-4. 할튼교육청 자녀무상교육
부모님 중 한 분이 학생비자(Study Permit)를 소지하고 대학 이상 교육기관을 다니는 동안 동반 자녀들은 공립학교에서 무상교육 혜택이 적용됩니다. 관할지역에서 자녀무상교육을 위해 등록할 수 있는 대학기관은 쉐리던 컬리지(Sheridan College)가 대표적입니다. 할튼교육청은 부모님이 영어과정(ESL)을 공부하는 동안에는 무상교육 혜택을 안 해주려고 하므로, 같은 지역에 있는 할튼카톨릭교육청으로 알아보셔야 합니다.
2. 학교 위치 검색하기(School Locator)
지도에서 노란색은 초등학교, 빨간색은 고등학교입니다. 스쿨버스의 경우 Halton Student Transportation Service에 들어가서 학생이 사는 집 주소와 학년을 입력하면 스쿨버스 이용이 가능한지 체크할 수 있습니다. 여기에서 이용 불가라고 뜨면 스쿨버스 이용을 못합니다!

It is fully integrated with a community recreation facility which offers both indoor and outdoor athletic facilities and a public library. | Georgetown District | 할튼힐즈 | Georgetown District High School (GDHS) is located in the picturesque and historic town of Georgetown, in the municipality of Halton Hills. It has a complement of approximately 1580 students from Grades 9 through 12 who believe in a high degree of commitment to both school and community. The school also hosts the highly popular Gifted, French Immersion and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programs as well as Specialist High Skills Majors in Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism, Environmental, Transportation, and Justice, Community Safety and Emergency Services. |

The school fosters a safe, collaborative and caring environment wherein all 1500 diverse students are included and welcomed. CKSS offers programming from Grades 9 through 12 including French Immersion, and Specialist High Skills Majors in Transportation, Green Industries, Hospitality, Information and Communications Technology, Arts and Culture and Social Justice. |
| Elsie MacGill | 밀튼 | Elsie MacGill SS is a three-story accessible school features 21st century teaching layouts, air conditioning with individual classroom controls, triple gym, bus lay-by and student drop-off area. It also has a Community Pathways Program hub, which accommodates four classrooms with a common kitchen area and sensory rooms. The school began offering the HDSB’s I-STEM Program in Fall 2022. The school is named after Elsie MacGill, a pioneering aeronautical engineer, held numerous leadership roles in business and was a member of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Canada (1967-70). MacGill is a recipient of the Order of Canada. |

| Garth Webb | 옥빌 | Garth Webb Secondary School (GWSS) opened in September 2012 and is named after WWII Veteran Garth Webb. Mr. Webb was instrumental in the opening of the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy, France. The Juno Beach Centre is an education centre and memorial to all who served Canada inthe Second World War. GWSS is a “walk-to” school, meaning there are no school buses, creating a close community feel. GWSS provides support to elite athletes. |

| White Oaks | 옥빌 | White Oaks Secondary School is located in a mature neighborhood in central Oakville. It is integrated with a library and swimming pool and is home to 1900 enthusiastic learners in Grades 9 through 12. 4. 할튼교육청 등록 관련 안내
4-1. 가디언(법적 보호자) 규정
- 유치원부터 8학년까지는(만 4-13세) 반드시 부모님과 함께 살아야 합니다.
- 9학년부터(만 14세 이상) 학생 혼자 조기유학이 가능하므로 홈스테이에서 통학할 수 있습니다.
- 부모님과 거주하지 않는 모든 미성년자는 가디언(법적 보호자)을 지정해야 하며, 학생과 같이 살거나 가까운 거리에 사는 만 19세 이상 캐나다 영주권자 또는 시민권자만 가디언이 될 수 있습니다.
- 부모님이 캐나다 영주권자 또는 시민권자가 아니면 같이 살더라도 가디언을 따로 지정해야 합니다. (자녀무상교육은 해당 없음)
4-2. 입학 시기와 등록 마감일
입학 시기는 가을학기(9월) 또는 봄학기(2월)로 구분됩니다. 가을학기는 3월 31일까지, 봄학기는 11월 30일까지 원서를 받는다고 되어 있지만 실제로는 선착순 개념이 적용되므로 최소 1년 전에는 수속을 진행해야 원하는 학교에 입학 가능성이 있습니다.
4-3. 학교 및 학년 배정
- 초등학교는 부모님과 함께 거주하는 주소에 따라서 배정됩니다.
- 고등학교는 3지망까지 선택할 수 있으나, 자리 유무와 교육청 주관 입학시험(PAL Assessment) 성적에 따라 ESL 수업이 필요한 학생은 ESL 수업이 제공되는 학교로만 배정됩니다.
- 고등학교는 처음 배정된 학교에서 HDSB 소속의 다른 학교로 전학은 불가능합니다.
4-4. 입학 조건(내신 성적과 영어 능력)
- 고등학생의 경우 내신 성적이 최소한 평균 70%은 되야 합니다. (한국 고등학교에서 전학 시 국어, 수학, 영어 원점수 70점 이상)
- 아이의 지난 출결 사항을 봅니다. 무단 결석이 많으면 입학 신청을 안 받아줄 수 있습니다.
- 11학년까지는 영어 인터뷰나 공인영어점수를 요구하지 않으나 온라인으로 교육청 주관 입학시험(PAL Assessment)을 봅니다.
- 12학년으로 입학하려면 IELTS Academic 6.0 이상을 제출해야 합니다.
4-5. 오리엔테이션
캐나다에 도착하면 교육청 Welcome Centre에서 진행하는 신입생 오리엔테이션에 필수적으로 참석해야 합니다. 신입생 오리엔테이션은 보통 학기 시작일 일주일 전에 진행되며, 반드시 부모님 또는 가디언(법적 보호자)과 동행해야 합니다. 오리엔테이션에서 필요한 서류들을 제출하고 영어+수학 반 배정 시험을 봅니다. 평가가 완료되면 학생들은 각기 적합한 난이도의 교과목에 배정됩니다.
5. 할튼교육청 연간 유학비용
- 모든 금액은 캐나다 달러 기준, 2024-25년도 기준입니다.
- 할튼교육청은 한 학기 등록을 안 받습니다. 무조건 1년 단위입니다.
- 숙식비, 개인 용돈, 가디언 서비스, 교복, 개인 과외, 필드트립, 나이트스쿨, 섬머스쿨, 대중교통비는 별도입니다.
